"Please" Campaign Music Festival, October 4th at Olympus

'Please' is a campaign to help people with disabilities in the Maldives.

These children and young adults do not have sufficient services available to them. They are treated at best as second-class citizens and we aim to create awareness amongst the general public and raise funds for CDC (children development center) in Care Society. We need your support to successfully manage this and in turn help kids who are in such situations. Please, Help!

We're pleased to say we've managed to record the entire concert!

Some really mind blowing music by some brilliant artists united for such an important cause. Makes me proud to be Maldivian.

I also have the speeches etc given by everyone as well, so if anyone needs that, just ask.

Songs were recorded using a Canon G10 digital still camera as before, but we've learnt from our mistakes and the audio is much higher quality than last time.

Sorry they're a bit late but I had over 4 hours of mono .wav audio to cut, clean, process, tag, sort and upload. I couldn't figure out/find what the 2nd song played by MoonStone was :( .

Downloads are high quality tagged mp3 files packed in a .rar archive.

We'll be uploading the music to youtube for easier streaming/discovery during the coming days.

Keep the music alive!

Painted Sound Illusion 95 and The Clique Show booklets

Here are two booklets (provided by the awesome an'du [of theDamnedones]) of two classic music concerts which I have scanned. The downloads are in pdf format.

The booklets are from the legendary 2nd Painted Sound Illusion show held in 1995 and from The Clique Show which I think was held in 1994.

Hope you enjoy them! It's great seeing how the music scene was alive back then and I'm sure you'll see many familiar faces as well. It's also fun to see the adds and graphics they had back in the day for all the old shops and services; they seem so much more honest hehe.

We've decided that materials like this are just as important as the music, since they provide depth and colour to the culture of the time. So we'll be posting more stuff like this as we get them as well. Please contact us if you have any materials you would like to contribute!

Call for contributions

Contribute! We can only achieve this together.

If you have or know anyone that has live recordings of Maldivians bands; please let us know!

We will also host non-live (is that even a word?) recordings and even official albums but only with the explicit permission of the band(s) involved. We will draft no-commercial no-derivative attribution copyright statements if needed.

All contributors will get full credit.

What we will do with your contributions:
- Upload to our youtube channel with descriptions, text graphics if only audio and ofcourse linkbacks to the band’s website or where there is information on the band
- Upload a fully tagged mp3 archive to our data account
- Make a blog post on our official blog detailing the upload and details of the band/event etc
- Whatever additional information the individual or band would like to be posted (album release dates, upcoming gigs, etc)

Contributing is simply a matter of giving us a copy of whatever material you may have. No further work on the contributor’s part is necessary. Although for the sake of organization and also so we can properly tag music; the following details are a must:
- The proper official name of the band
- The name of the event where it was recorded
- The date that the event was held (exacts dates aren’t a must, but it’d be nice if you knew)

If the contribution is directly from a band or from someone with audio processing knowledge, if they wish they may make whatever adjustments they feel necessary adjustments to clear up the sound.
If the file is already online, we can link to it with a post, or we can reupload if you wish. We prefer reuploading as many videos on youtube have already disappeared since after the users deleted their accounts!

We will ofcourse not make any commercial use of the material provided. We once again emphasize that Maldives Pirate Radio exists to archive and make sharing of live Maldivian music easier; for the benefit of musicians and their fans. Not to make any profit of any sort. If a band disagrees with their material being posted; we will remove it (and be extremely sad ).

Please email us with your contributions at maldivespirateradio@gmail.com . If the files are too large to attach or if you are having trouble; please email us anyways. We will send a fellow pirate to pick up the file with a USB drive, or a burned CD if you would be so kind.

Thanks and keep supporting local artists!

Youth Day 2009 (August 13th at Raalhugandu)

Here are some recordings from the show held at Raalhugandu to mark International Youth Day. It includes the full setlist from The Agents of Orange, "Varunulaa" by 1984 (solo acoustic performance by Appi) and "Rugy" by STiCKhOUSe. Recordings aren't of the most amazing quality since they were from a mono digicam (canon G10), but they're very listenable. Especially the Agents' songs. I had a blast cutting and cleaning up the raw audio files; these songs are all seriously good. I'm really proud our country has musicians at this level. I hope you guys enjoy listening to them as much as I did.

To contribute your recordings email us at maldivespirateradio@gmail.com. We'll post them here if they are of sufficient quality. We'd love to hear what you have and I'm sure the world would too. Full credit will be given to the contributer if desired.

Lets not let the music die once the shows over. Lets work together and spread the sound of the underground.

Welcome to Maldives Pirate Radio!

Welcome to Maldives Pirate Radio! We have started this movement with the aim of archiving and collecting live audio and video recordings of Maldvian music concerts. Official live recordings (hell even albums) are few and far between, and we all know the stage is where most of the good stuff happens anyways.

This site was created by fans for fans. We encourage sharing of this music amongst your friends and hopefully everyone will benefit. Bands will make more fans and their existing fanbase will get plenty of live music to listen to. We emphasize that this isn't for profit or gain. Just the sharing of great Maldivian music. Any sale or commercial use of any materials posted is strictly prohibited. Don't be an **** and ruin this for everyone.

If any bands are against these recording being available for download; let us know. We'll remove them. :(
